How Do I Love GOD

Why do you let me do the things that are displeasing to you ; why do you let your creation do the displeasing thing they do?

We are told in Deuteronomy 6:5 to “Love The LORD our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our strength. What does it mean to “Love GOD”?

We can love many thing; I love Mexican food, you love Pizza (I love that too!) I love my wife and I love my cat. Although we can love many thing, they are not all on the same level of importance. My love for Mexican food is greater than pizza! What do we take away from this , besides the left overs for breakfast?

Love and desire go hand in hand, the two words could be interchangeable. When looking at loving GOD the word “Desire” is a better choice than “love”. I guess you can say, desire produces love.

GOD wants us to “love” HIM, He wants us to desire HIM, to want to walk hand in hand with Him in the cool of the evening; to be one with HIM; but He won’t force us to desire Him. That we must do with our own initiative.

At somewhere in our lives there is a point, a spark, some emanation of HIS hope for us catches our eye and we look to GOD for the first time. At what age does this happen… I don’t know; it comes at different point in everyone’s life.

You might have been born into a religious family and have “religion” around you all your life. You may have a head full of knowledge but what does all the knowledge of creation do if you don’t have understanding?

I know many “religious” people from a diversity of religions and you know what… in many cases, their religion makes them no better off than people who have no religion at all. I can be religious without loving GOD. I can be the most obedient person in my religion and still have no desire to love GOD.

So many times GOD declares to us that we serve Him with our lip, our mouths but our hearts are farrrrrrrrrr away from Him. There is no desire for closeness with Him and in return there is no love of Him. Our desire is for the people of our religious family to see our “good” works and that’s where it ends. Wherever you desire lies there will you find your love.

GOD can’t and won’t make us love Him. He can show Himself to us in that spark, in that point of light, that burning bush , as it would be, but it is up to us to turn, it is up to us to desire to turn and see why the bush is not consumed. When we turn to look and HE calls us by name, your life will never be the same again.

GOD has desires for us, but until His desire and our desire kiss there will be no love between the two of us.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says יהוה (the LORD), thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” He is thinking about you, He is thinking about me: I guess the question is Am I are you thinking about Him?
